Case Study – Bloody Amazing CIC

Bloody Amazing CIC, founded two years ago by Livvi, began as a response to her personal experiences with painful periods and her journey with endometriosis—a condition that often takes up to eight years to diagnose in the UK. Livvi recognised a significant gap in period education within Scottish schools and was determined to change that. Her mission was to provide young people with essential knowledge about their bodies, help them identify potential period-related issues early, and empower them to advocate for their own healthcare needs.

The funding provided by the Delamere Dairy Foundation was instrumental in helping Bloody Amazing CIC achieve its goals. The grant enabled the purchase of biological models used in workshops, the donation of free sustainable period products to young people, and the delivery of free menstrual well-being workshops in primary and secondary schools across West Central Scotland. Initially aiming to deliver workshops to 30 schools, the team adjusted their approach based on the funding received, focusing on reaching as many young people as possible with high-quality education. This initiative has already reached over 20 schools, with a lasting impact created through the establishment of Period Ambassadors—senior pupils trained to educate their peers and raise awareness within their school communities.

One particularly powerful success story came from a school that had previously struggled to deliver effective period education. Challenges such as mixed-gender classes and parental concerns had led to some students being withdrawn from these lessons altogether. Bloody Amazing CIC worked closely with the school’s staff, parents, and pupils, holding information events and focus groups to address barriers and build trust. This collaborative approach led to the successful delivery of workshops to P6 and P7 girls, with full participation and overwhelmingly positive feedback.

The work from the Bloody Amazing social enterprise has also expanded into unexpected areas. After identifying language barriers faced by refugee and asylum-seeking families, Bloody Amazing CIC began offering English language lessons. These sessions are helping women understand and advocate for their menstrual and menopause health, overcoming cultural taboos and enabling access to essential healthcare.

Bloody Amazing CIC is committed to continuous growth and improvement, incorporating lived experiences into their work by partnering with students who wish to play an active role in the organisation. This collaboration ensures their services remain relevant and impactful. The Delamere Dairy Foundation’s support has not only facilitated educational workshops but also empowered Bloody Amazing CIC to explore new avenues, creating a lasting and meaningful impact in communities across Scotland.
